๐Ÿšจ New Jersey Train Drags Car a Quarter-Mile — 82-Year-Old Miraculously Survives With Minor Injuries

In an incident that could have ended in unthinkable tragedy, an 82-year-old New Jersey woman survived after her car was struck and pushed nearly a quarter-mile down train tracks by a fast-moving freight train — all while she was still inside.

According to local reports, the terrifying event unfolded Wednesday afternoon in South Brunswick. The woman, whose name has not been released, told authorities she stopped her car after noticing flashing warning lights, unaware that she had come to a halt directly on the tracks.

She believed she was doing the right thing — but within seconds, everything changed.

A Freight Train Appears — and Impact Is Unavoidable

Before she had time to react, a CSX freight train barreled toward the crossing, slamming into the side of her gray sedan.
The tremendous force of the impact pushed her vehicle lengthwise down the tracks, dragging it over 1,300 feet, police said.

Photos released by the South Brunswick Police Department show the woman’s car turned sideways and jammed in front of the massive locomotive — a shocking sight that highlights just how close she came to a fatal outcome.

A Miracle on the Tracks

Despite the violent collision, first responders were stunned to find the woman alive. Not only had she survived, but she had only sustained a minor leg injury.

She was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation, but authorities described her condition as remarkably stable — a truly miraculous outcome considering the circumstances.

Roads Shut Down for Hours

The crash forced officials to close down Route 535 in both directions, leading to significant traffic delays throughout the area as crews worked to clear the tracks and investigate the scene.

Both the South Brunswick Police Department and CSX Transportation are continuing to review the incident, and Fox News Digital has reportedly reached out for additional details.

How Did She Survive?

Authorities say several factors may have contributed to the woman’s survival:

  • The train maintained consistent forward motion, preventing the vehicle from being crushed instantly.

  • The car’s structure absorbed much of the impact.

  • Emergency crews were able to reach her quickly.

Still, residents and safety officials are calling it nothing short of a miracle.

A Powerful Reminder for Drivers

This incident serves as a strong warning for all motorists: always stop before the tracks — not on them — and never assume you’re safe simply because you cannot see a train approaching.
